On Distributions, Probability, and Numbers: a Structuralist Point of View

Much has been written about the notion of probability, and how this concept may be interpreted. In contrast, philosophers of science seem to have neglected the concept of (stochastic) distribution, although distributions are at least as fundamental. One the one hand, they generalize the basic mathematical notion of number, on the other, from a structuralist perspective, distributions precede probabilities and their interpretation.
