This paper examines moral responsibility for mistranslations of technical terms by large language models (LLMs) in light of expert contributions to public lexical resources. It argues that providing normatively appropriate translations in Wikipedia and Wiktionary may improve translation by LLMs that use these resources, and proposes the notion of deferentialism on terminological translation. It also questions the exclusive attribution of moral responsibility for mistranslation to model developers.
