Limited Edition Digital Books and Exchange Traded Funds: Semi Fungible Tokens and the Erc-1155 Token Standard

Authors: Rochelle Forrester
Comments: 7 Pages. (Correction made by viXra Admin to conform with schoarly norm - Please conform!))

Limited edition digital books would be good investments for both exchange traded funds and individual investors. Limited edition digital books are a new means of publishing done by creating semi fungible tokens on the blockchain. The tokens consist of both an image and text and when the text is read in order, it tells a story like any other book. The book, being in a limited edition, enables the purchaser to not only obtain a book but also to obtain an asset which may increase in value. This is particularly because the book, being in digital form, can be copied and pasted to purchaser’s social media which will act as advertisements for the book, increasing its value for all owners of the digital books.

Bridging the Concrete and Abstract: A Pedagogical Strategy for Teaching Irrational Numbers

Authors: Haoxi Zhang, Bryce Petofi Towne

This paper explores the multifaceted pedagogical challenges involved in teaching irrational numbers. It proposes teaching strategies to bridge the divide between mathematical abstraction and empirical measurement when comprehending irrational quantities. The literature review synthesizes key findings on persistent conceptual gaps in irrational number understanding across educational levels. The theoretical framework draws on cognitive psychology, philosophy of mathematics, and constructivist learning theory in addressing the cognitive dissonance students experience. Core challenges include the abstract nature of irrational numbers, issues of representation and notation, and the psychological leap required from rational numbers. Proposed teaching strategies emphasize contrasting mathematical models with physical representations, challenging assumptions of measurement exactness, using symbolic notation, integrating active learning, and encouraging philosophical reflection. The paper advocates balancing theoretical precision with approximation in real-world measurement. Scaffolding experiential learning and multiple representations can facilitate deep comprehension. The paper concludes that grasping irrational numbers involves reconciling formal deductive reasoning with intuition about empirical constraints. Comprehensive pedagogical approaches must bridge this divide between abstraction and experience to foster robust mathematical understanding.

Exploring the Chemical Capabilities of Google Bard in Vietnamese High Schools

Authors: Phong Nguyen, Hana Truong, Phuong Nguyen, Philippe Bruneau, Linh Cao, Jin Wang
Comments: 9 Pages.

This paper presents an evaluation of the chemical aptitude exhibited by Google Bard when subjected to the chemical evaluation section of the Vietnamese National High School Graduation Examination (VNHSGE). In order to facilitate this evaluative endeavor, the VNHSGE dataset, originally in Vietnamese, was rendered into English due to the prevailing lack of Vietnamese language support in the Bard system. The outcomes of this investigation reveal that Google Bard attained a performance level of 47%, aligning closely with the respective achievements of ChatGPT and BingChat, which secured scores of 48% and 52.5%. It is imperative to underscore that this performance metric might be subject to the influence of the translation process from the Vietnamese language to English. Consequently, prudence dictates that Vietnamese students refrain from relying upon Google Bard, ChatGPT, and BingChat for the resolution of chemical predicaments.

Both Pedagogy and Psychology Need the Concept of Thirst for Ability and Thirst for Blazing New Trails

Authors: Runsheng Tu

The desire for ability (the interest in increasing wisdom) and the desire for innovation (the interest in creation) exist objectively, and the desire for knowledge (interest in recognition) cannot replace them. People pay more attention to ability, especially creativity, than to knowledge. It is much easier to make up for the lack of knowledge than to make up for the lack of ability. However, in pedagogy and psychology, there is only the concept of the desire for knowledge, but not the concept of the desire for ability and the concept of the desire for innovation. The strange phenomenon of "using cognitive interest to carry out intellectual and creative education" has existed for a long time. This makes insufficient the subjective initiative of "the cultivation of ability and innovation consciousness that must be started and run through". Strong comprehensive ability and innovation are the needs of the times for talents. Ability and innovation awareness can be cultivated. Just as the levels of knowledge and ability are different, the levels of thirst for knowledge and thirst for ability are also different. The thirst for knowledge cannot replace the thirst for ability and innovation. The process and methods of ability development and knowledge transfer are different and cannot be replaced by each other. It is necessary and possible to establish the concept of desire for ability and desire for innovation. Apply the concept of desire for ability and innovation to change the strange situation of cultivating creativity and comprehensive ability based on cognitive interest.

This document is the result of many years of effort in the STEM field. Many of the lessons here have been implemented in the US by NASA and others in STEM youth empowerment for decades. In Switzerland, and especially in cycle 1 & 2 of the new curriculum, such interventions are being considered, but there is still a lack of target group-specific documentation on how to carry out the lessons. This document is therefore primarily aimed at teachers who would like to increasingly include topics from the MINT area in their lessons and thus open the door to concepts and topics of secondary school education for their students.

Educational Turnaround

Authors: Joerg Schwander
Comments: The report in German contains only 6 pages of text, the rest are mainly animations (flip-book).

The necessity of an energy turnaround is hardly disputed any more. But why did science and politics not recognize this problem earlier, when the influence of CO2 on the temperature of the earth has been known since 1900? This shows that there are deficiencies in science. It has also contributed to many other environmental problems. These deficiencies can be proven by analyzing a scientific concept (as a means to an end). It is de-scribed in a generally understandable way in the 1st part and visualized with animations in the 2nd part. This concept describes the movement of an object not in a real space, but in an unreal construct respectively as a relative movement with respect to the observer. Here, for example, a ball in a straight glass tube does not fall vertically but arc-shaped relative to a horizontally moving observer. This is mathematically correct, but contradicts the movement of the ball and has no relevance. The goal of this report is to start an educational turnaround that will lead to a holistic and networked way of thinking, so that science and politics are able to solve the existential environmental problems that threaten our livelihoods.

Residency Match Outcomes of DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine's DO/MBA Dual-Degree Students Relative to DO-Only Students

Authors: David Horvath, Alex Sher

Introduction: Osteopathic students question whether a dual degree will help them distinguish themselves among their peers in the National Residency Match. This paper analyzes the impact that a DO/MBA dual degree has on matching into a competitive residency.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study design via email, fourth year osteopathic students and alumni of Lincoln Memorial University were queried on dual degree obtainment, elements of their residency application, residency match outcome, and opinion on why an osteopathic student would pursue an MBA degree.

Results: DO/MBA applicants did not differ from DO-only applicants. DO/MBA and DO-only students had similar board exam scores, leadership experiences, volunteer hours, memberships in honor societies, and research opportunities. A Fisher exact test showed that neither degree track was statistically associated with placement into a more competitive residency (p= 0.7301).

Conclusion: Despite the increase in dual-degree osteopathic programs, such programs alone do not afford a match into a more competitive residency.

A Review of the Evidences Showing that Certain Plant Medicines can be Useful for Novel Corona Virus Treatment

Authors: Victor Christianto; Florentin Smarandache
Comments: 6 Pages.

Considering growing concerns of the world’s authorities on the spreading of novel corona virus (Covid-19), in this paper we review the evidences showing that certain plant medicines can be useful for novel corona virus treatment. Our argument is based on research finding that corona virus has viral envelope glycoproteins. In this regard, Mannose-binding lectins have been shown to be able to break down the shells that surround this class of viruses - which includes COVID-19 virus. Therefore, it seems useful to consider medicinal plants which have Mannose-binding lectins in order to break the glycoproteins envelope of the virus. This is an initial review on this subject, further research in direction as outlined here is recommended.

Maximizing Archimedes Spiral Packing Density Area

Authors: Dhafiallah Almutairi, Naif Alshamrani, Andrew Ingram, Andrew Grieco, Yeshaiahu Fainman.

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a broadband Archimedes spiral delay line with high packing density on a silicon photonic platform. This high density is achieved by optimizing the gap between the adjacent waveguides (down to sub-micron scale) in the spiral configuration. However, care must be taken to avoid evanescent coupling, the presence of which will cause the spiral to behave as a novel type of distributed spiral resonator. To this end, an analytical model of the resonance phenomenon was developed for a simple spiral. Moreover, it is demonstrated that this distributed spiral resonator effect can be minimized by ensuring that adjacent waveguides in the spiral configuration have different propagation constants (β). Experimental validations were accomplished by fabricating and testing multiple spiral waveguides with varying lengths (i.e., 0.4, 0.8, and 1.4 mm) and separation gaps (i.e., 300 and 150 nm). Finally, a Linear Density Figure of Merit (LDFM) is introduced to evaluate the packing efficiency of various spiral designs in the literature. In this work, the optimum experimental design with mitigated resonance had a length of 1.4mm and occupied an area of 60x60µm, corresponding to an LDFM of 388mm-1.

On the Decomposition of a Vector Using Matrix Algebra

Authors: Aloys J. Sipers, Joh. J. Sauren

In this letter a theorem is stated on the decomposition of a vector with respect to two axes using matrix algebra. This theorem may serve to develop exercises for education in mathematics and physics. In most physics exercises the vectors are given by their polar coordinates. Motivated by practical applications, we denote the vectors by their Cartesian coordinates. Using Cartesian coordinates provide a didactic aid to develop exercises which can be solved without the use of a calculator. Several examples clarify the educational potential of the theorem.

Engagement Capstone Projects: a Collaborative Approach to a Case Study in Psychoacoustics

Authors: Roberto San Millán-Castillo, Eduardo Latorre-Iglesias, Martin Glesser
Comments: 33 Pages.

Undergraduates in Spanish universities conclude their Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication Engineering with a capstone project. In recent years, students in technical degrees often postpone this last step due to an accelerated entry into the labour market or disappointment about the capstone project development. This article presents an approach which attempts to overcome these challenges: \textit{Engagement} capstone projects. The authors, lecturers in two Spanish Universities (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, supported by the French Company, EOMYS, manage this educational project. Students become responsible for their contribution to a free, libre and open software project, which provides sound quality metrics based on psychoacoustics. They have the opportunity to work in a collaborative and international environment with industrial partners. The presentation of the technological platform shows the educational benefits of the employed tools: Python, GitHub and Jupyter Notebook. A student survey and the supervisors feedback supports an analysis, which helps improve the methodology as well as verify the benefits: better supervision, the development of social and professional skills, and useful community work. Finally, a couple of examples of Engagement capstone projects give insight into the results of this educational strategy.

Hybrid Learning Aided Technology-Rich Instructional Tools - A Case Study: Community College of Qatar

Authors: Muhammad Jamal Shehab

Educational Institutions have an essential role in promoting the teaching and learning process, within universities, colleges, and communities. Due to the recent coronavirus COVID 19 pandemic, many educational institutions adopted hybrid learning (HL), which is a combination of classic and online learning. It integrates the advantages of both, and it is a fundamental factor to ensure continued learning. Technological innovations such as HL are changing the teaching process, and how students, lecturers, and administrators interact. Based on this, the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) focused on researching the structures and elements related to the adoption of HL. Thus, the goal of this research paper is to reveal the impact of HL on the learning process in CCQ, and the effective didactic tools required for a successful HL program. Our research questions for assessing and evaluating the learning process at CCQ are as follows: a) Is HL a suitable learning strategy that would best suit the students ?; b) What are the didactic tools needed in the HL program at CCQ ?; c) Will the students meet the learning objectives if HL program is adopted?. A quantitative method was used in this study. Furthermore, a questionnaire was designed for the survey which was designed to measure the opinions of the students, instructors, and administrators about the HL program. It is observed from the results that the majority of students, instructors, and administrators showed a positive attitude toward HL, but some had negative views and experienced challenges. The results were analyzed and discussed to better utilize HL to meet the growing demands of the community.

Interactive STEM Curriculum: Technological Tools and Programming Interface

Authors: Manjukumar Patil, Christopher Stewart
Comments: 6 Pages.

The most important drawback of teaching mathematical equations to the middle school children is the lack of practical examples and interactive tools which can be provided to make concepts easier to grasp. Additionally, on a parallel note, computer programming has become increasingly important in the current era. The amalgamation of programming languages into the STEM curriculum in the early stages of the students’ education would expose them to learn and be acquainted with these concepts at a much earlier age. Teaching STEM concepts using interactive learning tools would benefit students to visualizing the concepts in a more intuitive way. Traditional ways of teaching for linear algebra concepts such as linear equations, quadratic equations, and their associated graphs are not sufficient to reach students deeply with these concepts. However, with the use of technology and right tools (Stepper motor and Drone), we can make the curriculum fun, interactive and link the real-world applications of these concepts, and make students engage deeply into the curriculum.

Theorems on the Transfer Function of First-Order $RC$-Circuits with Either an Ideal or a Non-Ideal Capacitor

Authors: Aloys J. Sipers, Joh. J. Sauren

In this letter two theorems are stated, the first one on the ratio of an electrical output voltage signal $y\left(t\right)$ to an electrical input voltage signal $x\left(t\right)$ of a circuit with an ideal impedance and the second one on the ratio of an electrical output voltage signal $y\left(t\right)$ to an electrical input voltage signal $x\left(t\right)$ of a circuit with a non--ideal impedance. In the latter case, the change of the ratio $y\left(t\right)/x\left(t\right)$ is a measurable quantity of the change of the resistive part of the output impedance and therefore a measure of its quality.

Python 3 Lambda

Authors: K. S. Ooi

Python coders are traditionally imperative. They may program in the paradigms of structured or object-oriented programming, but seldom in functional program. The resurgence of functional programming in the past decade or so has sent Python coders into tailspin. Lambda functions appear in countless of code, not as pure functional but as hybrid to the traditional imperative. Various resources about lambda function add even more confusion. This article address lambda in the context of Python, with minimum jargon but with a number of illustrative examples.

Python Formatted Output: Old and New

Authors: K. S. Ooi

The new string formatter of Python 3 has more to offer than the old formatted output absorbed from C. The adjustment can be specified by either :> (move to right), :< (move to left), or :^ (move to center), which is quite intuitive. One can select character to pad spaces and no longer to have only whitespaces as padding characters. With or without precision specification, the new formatter is predictable and intuitive.

Formatted Output: The Forgotten C Facility

Authors: K. S. Ooi

Even though input and output facilities are critical in programming, we usually do not spend too much time on them in programming courses. When we teach a programming course to beginners, there are other more pressing topics we must cover, and therefore we do not allocate too much time on input/output facilities, other than using them to perform simple tasks of taking input from keyboard and output the result on the screen. In this article, we focus on formatted output facilities of C. The signatures of format in formatted output of C using printf can still be found in Python.

Map vs Filter in Python 3

Authors: K. S. Ooi

Higher-order functions are essential tools for functional programmers, but majority of Python programmers are imperative. When the higher-order functions are used in imperative development, it usually has negative impact on readability of the code. With a small investment on understanding these higher-order functions, we may be able to alleviate some miscommunication between developers with different backgrounds in Python. In this article, two higher-order functions are examined: map and filter. Few examples are given in this article to illustrate their differences. Indexing for Sequence and Collection in Python 3

Authors: K. S. Ooi

String slicing technique can be applied to only one kind of Python 3 iterables. In Python 3, there are two kinds of iterables, the sequence and the collection. The string slicing technique can only be applied to sequence, and can not be applied to collection. For example, keys of dictionary are keys that uniquely identifies their respective values. Any values other than the keys cannot be used as identifiers. The implementation of Python in this respect is therefore clean. Keywords: Python 3, iterables, slicing, sequence, collection

Reduce () in Python 3

Authors: K. S. Ooi

Python, the most popular language at this moment, is the language of choice to write readable code. As coding instructors, it is our virtue to teach students to write code that is easy to read and understand. However, Python was older than Java. There are functional programming components that survive, and many students find them too cool to ignore. I address one such higher-order function, reduce(), in this article. Over-reduce() is the first issue I discuss. If we understand the problem well and do not shoehorn our problem into reduce(), there are alternatives readily available. In this article, I gives few examples that we should not reduce().

In the first part of the communication, we synthetically present the situation of the general culture education in the north-western part of the country. In the second part of the paper, the main objective of the research is presented: identifying the factors on which the candidates? success at the finalization in education exam depends. The success at the exam, as a dependent variable, is operationalised and quantified through the obtained grade. The following factors are taken in consideration: the candidates? specialization, graduation year, graduates? education form, the type of institutions (public or private), the county where they work, the rural or urban environment of the institution where they work, the rural or urban environment of their birthplace, civil state, sex and age. A number of 100 subjects have been investigated from Bihor County, Satu-Mare County and S?laj County. Once all indicators have been operationalized and quantified, data was statistically processed. In this way, it was possible to check the hypotheses, according to which, there are certain specializations and counties where most of the candidates come from, who achieve remarkable results at the final exam. In the same manner, the impact of the analyzed factors was studied. Finally, several social and professional factors were outlined according to the role they play in the examining process, deciphering the causes of success. The first part of the paper presents the general theoretical issue of social and cultural inequality. The analysis aims at highlighting the important role that education plays in ensuring equal opportunities for young people and diminishing social inequalities. The study highlights the important role of the teacher in ensuring students' good training and in diminishing, through this way, social and professional inequalities. Relevant information regarding education situation in schools is presented, revealing more inequalities, both between counties, urban and rural environments in each county, but also between different areas of the same county. The premises of the investigation have originated from inequalities such as those presented above. The article tries to capture the intervention of factors, such as the environment from which the teachers come, their specialization, the civil status, the year of graduation, sex, age, etc.

The Social Dimension of Educational Assessment

Authors: Ramona-Elena TUTUNARU

Educational assessment has always been present within the educational process, but the way we have related to it has continuously changed as educational assessment is constantly constructing itself ? both from within and in relation to the other elements of the educational process. Socially, schools represent the institution which fulfils a key-role ? its main purpose is to educate, and education has the force to generate knowledge, value, and evolution. Educational assessment meets these characteristics both intrinsically and extrinsically, in relation to everything it interacts with. The impressive capacity of the educational assessment to adapt itself to the present time but also to look towards the future is also evidenced by it claiming its presence in the processes of both teaching and learning as well as in the assessment process itself ? all assessment subjecting itself to its own rigours.

The Views of Pupil on Teacher Undesirable Behaviors in Their Apprenticeship Program

Authors: Ömer BEYHAN

At the beginning, it is found in most of the countries that offer teacher education are not concerned with the current need and development needed for the school and the industry (real life), rather they just design the curriculum as per the decision of members of the board or senate. Generally, the board does not want to discuss exactly with the nominees or experienced teachers and the school manager. Results are in a big gap for the education operators especially, nominee teachers, too. Preparing a suitable training program and job ready teachers we need nominee teacher perceptions on their trainers and teacher. In this content, in an undesirable environment for pupils’ perceptions are very essential. Undesirable environment for practice is defined as the environment that has behavior which is not suitable for the situation or the environment, but it is acted consciously in it. In this study, it is aimed to determine the views of the pupil on teacher undesirable behaviors in their apprenticeship program. The population of this research is 370 students who study in NEÜ Education faculty 7th-semester students in the academic year 2017-2018 in Konya. This paper that tries to find the ways on the grounds for synergetic partnerships between the faculty of education and industry for a win-win situation for both the sides revealed that pupil perceptions are ranged in two groups between “strongly disagree” with the interval 1.00-1.80 and “disagree” with the interval 1.81-2.60.

The study group of the research consisted of 445 high school students selected by random sampling method. The participants consisted of 250 (45.9%) men and 295 (54.1%) women. In the research, State-Trait Anger and Anger Expression Style Scale, Submissive Behaviors Scale and Personal Information Form were used to determine the anger and anger expression styles of adolescents. In the analysis of the data; t-test, one-way variance analysis, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and regression analysis were used. According to the research findings, a significant difference was found in favor of female students in trait anger and anger-out sub-dimensions of trait anger and anger expression styles of adolescents according to gender variable. In the anger control sub-dimension, a significant difference was found in favor of male students. According to the grade variable, the anger-in subscale dimension, which is one of the state-trait anger and anger expression subscales, was found to be significantly higher in the 10th grade students than the 9th grade students. As a result of the correlation analysis conducted in the research, a positive and moderate relationship was found between the adolescents’ scores from submissive behaviors and the anger-in sub-dimensions. As a result of the regression analysis conducted in the research, it was concluded that submissive behaviors were a significant predictor of adolescents’ anger-in. According to the findings of this study, it can be suggested that school psychological counselors conduct anger control group guidance for 9th and 10th grade students.

Curricular Perspectives and Strategies for Developing Cognitive Skills in Early Education

Authors: Claudia Irina ALDEA

Starting from the assumption that in early education the curricular strategies are selected and developed according to the curricular context and the specificity of general and particular cognitive development, we decided to engage in an experimental research focused on identifying, validating and developing some curricular strategies that are as relevant in the development of cognitive skills, as well as of other areas of development and experience. Our research fulfils several functions: 1) The systematization of the conceptual analyses regarding the problem of the cognitive skills and of the curricular strategies of their development, accompanied by personal appreciations and interpretations; 2) Of retesting and developing a previous micro-research; 3) Of methodological research, based on the development and validation of relevant investigation tools; 4) The development of a methodological framework and operational landmarks for the development of cognitive skills in early education. The article is conceived in the spirit of scientific consistency and comprehensive analysis of conceptual models, strategies and methodological models that outline the terminological code of the problem, but which also constitute premises for theoretical development and design of some experimental approaches. The article is structured on two dimensions: a) theoretical foundation regarding the conceptual analysis of cognitive competence in early education, from the perspective of the skills-centred educational approach, of the curriculum for early education, with implications for lifelong learning; b) addressing curricular strategies, which facilitate the process of developing cognitive skills in preschoolers, with an emphasis on child-centred training.

Using Advanced Keyword Strings to Predict a Pandemic

Authors: H. Dhaliwal

When a new virus emerges, news articles will be written about it on the internet on first word of it. Furthermore, users on social media sites (e.g. reddit) will give advice on how to prepare for a pandemic with items to buy. Therefore searching the internet using certain keywords to see if such articles or posts exist may help determine if a new virus exists and this process may be automated and make use of artificial intelligence or a human may scan through the results. This may prevent a possible future pandemic. For example the following keyword string can be used for each week (keywords were extracted from web page links below).

An Efficient Content, Collaborative-Based and Hybrid Approach for Movie Recommendation Engine

Authors: Rajeev Kumar, Guru Basava, Felicita Furtado
Comments: 21 Pages.

The purpose of the project is to research about Content and Collaborative-based movie recommendation engines. Nowadays recommender systems are used in our day to day life. We try to understand the distinct types of reference engines/systems and compare their work on the movies datasets. We start to produce a versatile model to complete this study and start by developing and relating the different kinds of prototypes on a minor dataset of 100,000 evaluations. The growth of e-commerce has given rise to recommendation engines. Several recommendation engines exist within the market to recommend a wide variety of goods to users. These recommendations support various aspects such as users' interests, users' history, users' locations, and more. Away from all the above aspects; one thing is common which is individuality. Content and collaborative-based movie recommendation engines recommend users based on the user's viewpoint, whereas many things are there within the marketplace that are related to which a user is uninformed of. This stuff should also be suggested by the engine to clients; But due to the range of " individuality ", these machines do not suggest things that are out of the crate. The Hybrid System of Movie Recommendation Engine has crossed this variety of individuality. The Movie Recommendation Engine will suggest movies to clients according to their interest and be evaluated by other clients who are almost user-like. Additionally, for this, there are web services that are capable of acting as a tool adornment.

What to not do in Pediatrics a Periodically Updated Red List

Authors: Andrei Lucian Dragoi
Comments: (Pediatrics Red List - version 1.0 - 13.04.2020 - 1.5 A4 pages without references)

This paper proposes an important RED list of what to NOT do in pediatrics, with the conviction that this red list should be taught from the first year of medicine and repeated in every single year of medical teaching, in all medical universities from all countries worldwide: the work-hypothesis (and the main motivation of this paper) is that insisting on this red list in all medical teaching systems may significantly decrease the rate of medical/pediatric malpractice thus may significantly improve the health status of any child population from any country. This paper will be periodically updated so that to increase the efficiency of this proposed medical teaching method based on the principle that any medical specialty should be taught starting (and repetitively insisting!) on what to NOT do in that medical specialty practice! This paper continues the line of other medical articles/preprints of the same author. This list is mainly addressed to young medical students, but also to young medical doctors, nurses etc. from the beginning of their careers.

The G-Clef (GC) Piano (GCP), GC Harp (GCH) and GC Accordion (Gca) Project (GCP Music Catalog, Including Midi-Mp3 Audio Files)

Authors: Andrei Lucian Dragoi
Comments: (GCP music catalog - version 1.0 - 1.5 A4 pages)

The G-clef (GC) piano/harp/accordion (GCP/GCH/GCA) is a variant of piano/harp/accordion notation in which the left hand (LH) staff uses instead of a standard F-clef (FC), an alternative G-clef (GC), GC 8vb (GC8vb) (aka GC in ”ottava bassa”) or 15mb (GC15mb) (aka GC in ”quindicesima bassa”) which means that LH notes should be played in GC but one or two octaves lower (8vb or 15mb) than written. GCP/GCH/GCA offers a much easier way to learn piano, because GC8vb and GC15mb are both much easier to learn and read than FC in any pedagogical system which initially uses GC to teach all the basic concepts of Western musical notation system. Correlation Between Content and Traffic of the Universities’ Website

Authors: Bahram Kalhor, Alireza Nikravanshalmani
Comments: 16 Pages.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the correlation between content and traffic of 21,485 academic websites (universities and research institutes). The achieved result is used as an indicator which shows the performance of the websites for attracting more visitors. This inspires a best practice for developing new websites or promoting the traffic of the existing websites. At the first step, content of the site is divided into three major items which are: Size, Papers and Rich Files. Then, the Spearman correlation between traffic of the websites and these items are calculated for each country and for the world, respectively. At the next step, countries are ranked based on their correlations, also a new indicator is proposed from combining these three correlations of the countries. Results show that in most countries, correlation between traffic of the websites and Papers is less than correlations between traffic of the websites and Rich Files and Size.

Development and growth of a nation is determined by the effective utilization of human resources, both male and female. Though, female category is about half of world’s population, they are underrepresented in most of the sectors. Chemistry is playing a synergetic role in shifting the equilibrium towards the women’s success. It is the social responsibility to eradicate the gender bias in chemical related fields (academic, professional, industrial, and research). The mean and methods for the same are discussed in the present article.

Maximum exploitation of existing human resources is possible by immediate engagement of women in science. But, historically, scientific field is found to be male-dominated. Women empowerment embraces the good quality education. Sensitizing and encouraging the women towards education embracement enables them to set free from ignorance, poverty and starvation. Hence, education is continuing as the most practicable avenue for women empowerment. Imparting science education to the entire population expedites the accomplishment of scientific and technological progression. The present article enlightens the efforts of Indian government and United Nations towards empowerment of women through science education and research.

Is Science a Pyramid Scheme? the Correlation Between an Author's Position in the Academic Hierarchy and Her Scientific Output Per Year

Authors: Charleeze P. Ponzi

A grievance expressed by some PhD students and Postdocs is that science works like a pyramid scheme: Young scientists are encouraged to invest into building scientific careers although the chances at remaining in science are extremely slim. This issue is investigated quantitatively by connecting it with the way authorship on papers is distributed. I analyzed a large bibliographic dataset made available by Microsoft under the name Academic Graph to create a histogram with the number of articles an author produces per year. The histogram has the shape of a pyramid, and different layers in it correlate with positions in the academic hierarchy. The super-prolific authors at the top of the pyramid with more than 40 publications per year are usually heads of large institutes with many subgroups and large numbers of PhD students, while the bottom of the pyramid is populated by PhD students and Postdocs with less than 5 publications per year. The mechanism that allows 'manager scientists' to appropriate publications generated in their sphere of influence is related to other issues, such as the evaluation of scientific performance based on scientometric indicators and the lenient enforcement of authorship rules. A new index, the Ponzi factor, is proposed to quantify this phenomenon.

Interpretation of Shannon Entropies with Various Bases by Means of Multinary Searching Games

Authors: Hsuan-Hao Chao, Chang Hsu, Long Hsu, Sien Chi
Comments: 8 Pages.

Ben-Naim used twenty question games to illustrate Shannon entropy with base 2 as a measure of the amount of information in terms of the minimum average number of binary questions. We found that Shannon entropy with base 2 equal to the minimum average number of binary questions is only valid under a special condition. The special condition is referred to as the equiprobability condition, which requires that the outcomes of every question have equal probability, thus restricting the probability distribution. This requirement is proven for a ternary game and a proposed multinary game as well. The proposed multinary game finds a coin hidden in one of several boxes by using a multiple pan balance. We have shown that the minimum average number of weighing measurements by using the multiple pan balance can be directly obtained by using Shannon entropy with base b under the equiprobability condition. Therefore, Shannon entropy with base b can be interpreted as the minimum average number of weighing measurements by using the multiple pan balance when the multiple outcomes have equal probability every time.

Facial Expression Detection using Deep Neural Networks

Authors: B Sai Teja, Ch Chinmai Durga Srinivas, M Sandeep Reddy, P M Ashok Kumar
Comments: 7 Pages.

Facial Expression conveys non-verbal communication, which plays an important role in acquaintance among people. The Facial Expression Detection system is an activity to identify the emotional state of a person. In this system, a captured frame is compared with trained dataset that is available in database and then state of the captured frame will be defined. This system is based on Image Processing and Machine Learning. For designing a robust facial feature descriptor, we apply the Xception Modelling Algorithm. Xception is a convolutional neural network that is trained on more than a million images from the ImageNet database. The network is 71 layers deep and can classify images into 1000 object categories, such as keyboard, mouse, pencil, and many animals. As a result, the network has learned rich feature representations for a wide range of images. The detection performance of the proposed method will be evaluated by loading the data-set and pre-processing the images for feeding it to CNN model. Experimental results with prototypic expressions show the superiority of the Xception-Model descriptor against some well- known appearance-based feature representation methods. Experimental results demonstrate the competitive classification accuracy of our proposed method.

Clojure Programming – the First Two Chapters

Authors: K. S. Ooi

I use Clojure to write scripts to explore and gray-hack the systems when I was asked to do so. Sadly, Clojure is not used widely by my fellow security experts; many of them, if they are required to write scripts, use Python instead. Clojure is simply, beautiful. However, Clojure has been recently relegated; it is no longer in top 25 popular programming languages at pypl (see http://pypl.github.io/PYPL.html) and has been listed as #51 to #100 programming language by TIOBE (https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/). This article is the first two chapters of my note on Clojure programming. If you are new to this language, this can be your first introduction to Clojure, and hopefully you embrace it as your scripting language for your security work.

I observed my Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme at Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. During my SIWES, I was able to learn how to make use of some complex statistical (computational) packages in coding and analyses of data, either primary data or secondary data. And I also learned how to interpret analyzed data for end users. Furthermore, I saw the practical applications of Mathematics to solve problems in organizations, companies and some other subsidiary institutes. The research institute enabled me to bridge the gap between theory and practical.

This paper proposes multiple G-clef instruments (GCIs) (based on all types of G-clefs) like GC-piano (GCP), GC-harp (GCH), GC-viola (GCV), GC-cello (GCC) and GC-double bass (GCDB), all based on a simple G-clef grand staff (GCGS) with two main subtypes (GCGS1 and GCGS2: GCGS significantly simplifies the standard grand staff and creates a unitary clef-"language" for all orchestral instruments, thus for the whole Western full-size orchestra (aka symphony orchestra or philharmonic orchestra). We have also dedicated an online database containing links to all scores transcribed by the author for various GCIs until present: www.gci.dragoii.com This paper is also available on ResearchGate and Academia.edu platforms at URLs: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/335025363 https://www.academia.edu/40031254 The latest version of this paper is periodically uploaded on dragoii.com domain and available at this URL: http://dragoii.com/ALDragoi_GCI_GCGS_latest.pdf

Do People in Physics Have a Responsibility to Inform the Public? (Slides)

Authors: Jonathan J. Dickau
Comments: 24 Pages. Slides for a talk given at FFP15, fulfilling a promise made to Pete Seeger.

In the present day; industrial accidents or natural disasters occur, and Physics-related questions arise, with increasing frequency. Do scientists have a responsibility to inform the public, when we are well-informed and others are lacking knowledge? Should we also safeguard certain information, in order to protect the public from harm? Unfortunately; people in positions of authority - both in business and in government - are too often lacking what many would consider a basic knowledge of Physics principles, so they need insight and information we have, to make informed decisions. But for many researchers; it is unwise or unsafe to speak out. And yet; when our leaders say they are powerless to fix things, as they have no better answers, we who know there are better answers need to acknowledge that we have failed to empower those leaders or our fellow citizens. Some are looking for ways to change this situation. The Azimuth Project, founded by physicist John Baez, attempts to provide a way for scientists and engineers to aid or save the Environment with their knowledge. Much of the information available on environmental issues is confusing or opinionated, and a Wiki, a Forum, and a Library of analysis software and information devoted to the subject assist in correcting this problem. This provides a clear example of how scientists can keep the public properly informed, and an opportunity to do so.

Verificação da Temática Biodiesel no Enem (1998-2017) em Consonância Com Sua Evolução no Contexto Nacional

Authors: Thalyta Pessoa Freire, Geórgia Batista Vieira de Lima, Luciano Leal de Morais Sales
Comments: 15 Pages.

The Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (Enem) was created in 1998 and has undergone two changes since then. It demands from the candidates the articulation of the knowledge learned in high school, relating them with illustrations, to find a resolution to the problems. Among them, the production and use of biodiesel is one of the subjects charged in the matrix of the exam. Therefore, the research sought to understand the profile of the questions about this biofuel, considering its approach, the national context and the presentation of the information about it in the evaluation. From a universe of 1.503 questions (1998 and 2017), nine were selected. Between the editions of 1998 and 2002 there was no direct mention of the biofuel chosen. From 2003 onwards, the exam addresses from the transformation of vegetable oil into biodiesel, through the transesterification reaction, to its use and production policies.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Derivations of Einstein's $e=mc^2$ from Newtonian Laws of Motion \footnote{einstein for the Enthusiasts: Derivations of $e=mc^2$ from Newtonian Laws of Motion

Authors: Zion Elani

This report details the pedestrian derivation of Einstein's famous equation, $E = mc^2$. Through the use of elementary physical quantities of Newtonian mechanics such as distance, force, momentum, velocity and energy, our approach resembles a `handling units' method. Further, two other proofs premising on the notion of mass and its dependence on velocity are discussed. These methods prove to be simple and physically intuitive, thus stimulating the amateur enthusiasts to a better understanding of various complex and difficult-to-derive formulas which are otherwise understood at a sophisticated academic level. Pedagogic significance of these methods is further discussed.

An Insight Into the "Flat Earth Society"

Authors: Likai Fareed

Modern flat Earth belief originated with the English writer Samuel Rowbotham (1816–1884). Based on conclusions derived from the Bedford Level experiment, Rowbotham published a pamphlet Zetetic Astronomy. He later expanded into a book Earth Not a Globe, proposing the Earth is a flat disc centred at the North Pole and bounded along its southern edge by a wall of ice, Antarctica. Rowbotham further held that the Sun and Moon were 3,000 miles (4,800 km) above Earth and that the "cosmos" was 3,100 miles (5,000 km) above the Earth. He also published a leaflet titled The inconsistency of Modern Astronomy and its Opposition to the Scriptures, which argued that the "Bible, alongside our senses, supported the idea that the earth was flat and immovable and this essential truth should not be set aside for a system based solely on human conjecture". Rowbotham and followers like William Carpenter gained attention by successful use of pseudoscience in public debates with leading scientists such as Alfred Russel Wallace. Rowbotham created a Zetetic Society in England and New York, shipping over a thousand copies of Zetetic Astronomy. After Rowbotham's death, Lady Elizabeth Blount established a Universal Zetetic Society, whose objective was "the propagation of knowledge related to Natural Cosmogony in confirmation of the Holy Scriptures, based on practical scientific investigation". The society published a magazine, The Earth Not a Globe Review, and remained active well into the early 20th century. A flat Earth journal, Earth: a Monthly Magazine of Sense and Science, was published between 1901–1904, edited by Lady Blount.

The emergence of dynamic learning systems is inevitable. In a future not so distant from today reading tools have incorporated interactive elements that would have rendered the process of learning very rewarding. These systems are radically different from current reading tools in that they provide users with functionalities that try to act as the extensions of human brain. This note is an attempt to describe some elements of a (fictional) proto-humanity-first reading tool.

The Effect of Anxiety on Performance of Students in Mathematics

Authors: Fayowole David Ayadi

This research work ''THE EFFECT OF ANXIETY ON PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN MATHEMATICS'' focuses on the relationship between Mathematics anxiety and students performance. A descriptive experimental research design was used to investigate the research questions. The population consisted of 120 pre-service teachers at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ojo Local Government, Lagos State. A personal data questionnaire was used to gather demographic and anxiety information about the participants. The implication of this study of elementary teacher education programs point to increased attention on the Mathematics anxiety of pre-service teachers. This process is two folds. One, it is recommended that pre-service teachers be made aware of their Mathematics anxiety level and two, it is recommended that teacher education programs acknowledge and address the importance of these affective variable and their role in pedagogy.

Frequent feedback synchronized with the lesson plan has been shown to improve student learning outcomes in several studies. With increasing enrolments coupled with reductions in education funding, instructors are left with fewer resources to provide frequent feedback or to develop enhanced teaching techniques. Multiple choice questions based assessments, while easier to administer, are considered less reliable than traditional free-form assessments. Intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) based assessments can improve the speed of assessment while providing immediate feedback to reinforce lectures and free-up resources for instructors. This paper first proposes an ITS design for multi-part problems where all questions are posed at once. Next, the paper evaluates student perception of this new ITS through a survey and a focus group. Following this, the paper evaluates the effectiveness of this ITS on a test score (an indicator of learning outcomes). Finally, the paper lists lessons learned that would be useful to the education community at large. The study indicates that the ITS was received well by the students and that the time taken to complete each attempt of an ITS assignment was comparable to a paper-based assessment. Additionally, the analysis of test scores indicates that the proposed ITS can lead to improvements in student learning. It may be noted that the proposed ITS differs from commercial ITSs by posing all questions at once. However, the pedagogical advantage of offering all questions at once was not evaluated in this study. Further, the proposed ITS was not compared to other ITSs and the observed benefits may not be unique to this implementation. As such, the current findings are locally encouraging and important.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: Derivations of Einstein's E=mc² from Newtonian Laws of Motion

Authors: Zion Elani

This report presents a simple derivation of Einstein's famous equation, E=mc². Through the use of elementary physical quantities of Newtonian mechanics such as distance, force, momentum, velocity, and energy, our approach resembles a `handling units' method.

On Making Books More Dynamic

Authors: Reza Hasanzadeh

The emergence of dynamic learning systems is inevitable. In a future not so distant from today reading tools have incorporated interactive elements that would have rendered the process of learning very rewarding. These systems are radically different from current reading tools in that they provide users with functionalities that try to act as the extensions of human brain. This note is an attempt to describe some elements of a (fictional) proto-humanity-first reading tool.
